Peacemaker Season 2 Trailer Reveals DCU Surprises

The first trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 is here, and the return of James Gunn’s hit series is already having universe-altering effects on the DCU. Season 1 was the first and only TV Show to be set in DC’s previous cinematic universe the DCEU. Season 2 however will be the second show set in the brand-new DCU. And along with that comes the task of explaining why Peacemaker still looks like John Cena, but everyone else is a fresh face. Such is the reality of a soft-reboot where The Suicide Squad remains canon, but Superman, Batman and the many other heroes are being rebooted from scratch.

Green Lantern appears at the start of the trailer with Hawkgirl to interview Peacemaker to join their team of heroes. In the middle is their leader Maxwell Lord, played by Sean Gunn. He’s a business executive who created the Justice Gang, a team of corporate-sponsored superheroes backed by his company Lordtech. The entire Justice Gang, including Mister Terrific will appear in the ‘Superman’ movie directed by James Gunn, releasing in July of this year.

Rick Flag Sr. also shows up in the trailer. He first appeared in the DCU in Creature Commandos, where he was in a coma at the end of the season. He’s now recovered and is the head of ARGUS. ARGUS is hunting Peacemaker at Rick Flag Sr.’s direction. This is because Peacemaker killed his son, Rick Flag Jr. during a mission to Corto Maltese. This version of Peacemaker still remembers that, confirming that The Suicide Squad is canon, and this may be the same universe, or an alternate one with similar events.

New ARGUS agents are also joining the cast. Tim Meadows and Sol Rodríguez are playing agents Langston Fleury & Sasha Bordeaux. In addition, a mysterious man with magical powers appears. He’s played by Michael Rooker. James Gunn previously teased that the show is “much more magical” than Season 1.

The most exciting moment occurs when Peacemaker explores the pocket dimensions that his father Auggie created to store his weapons in. This “Quantum Unfolding Storage Area” exists seperate to regular space-time, similar to an alternate universe. Inside that alternate dimension, a variant of Peacemaker appears. This alternate Peacemaker is wearing a different costume, and his dove of peace emblem is inverted, hinting that he may have different morals.

The show may explain how the new DCU has changed from the old DCEU. James Gunn previously stated that this will be the first show to “address” the “soft reeboot”. Alternate universes can be a way to bridge or explain multiverse changes.
