Warner Bros gearing up for Max launch in Australia

Warner Bros. Discovery is ramping up business activities in Australia ahead of the local launch of their Max streaming service. WBD have placed multiple new job listings to expand their teams overseeing the strategy and rollout of Max.

New job listings include a ‘Senior Manager, Merchandising’ who will be responsible for “driving the initial Max platform build and transition to running ANZ Max on a day to day basis”. The role is part of a newly created ‘Merchandising’ team who is “responsible for maximising the full potential of content on Max ANZ”. The Senior Manager of the Merchandising team will report to the ANZ Content Programming Lead.

Other job listings include a ‘Senior Manager, Promo Planning and Strategy’. This position will “[lead] the team responsible for planning all in-stream promotion on MAX and specifically responsible for planning for all HBO, MAX, Discovery/Warner off-network, theatrical and brand campaigns on the Ad Free tier”. This confirms that Max will launch in Australia with a full-priced ad-free tier, and a cheaper ad-supported tier.

Warner Bros. Discovery have not yet confirmed the exact launch date for Max in Australia. The APAC president of WBD, James Gibbons has stated it will launch in the first half of 2025.
