The Hollywood Reporter has officially arrived in Australia. A shiny new social media account has already gone live on Instagram, with a tease for a full website soon to come.
The Hollywood Reporter Australia will operate as a licensed publication, borrowing the rights to use the name ‘THR’ in Australia while having local staff and resources powering the publication. This follows the launch of other licensed publications by THR in Japan (2023), Italy (2023), India (2024) and Latin America (2025), each operated by a local publishing partner under a multiyear licensing agreement with Penske Media, the US conglomerate which owns THR.
Coverage from THR Australia is expected to be a mix of local content alongside syndicated content from the US publication. The first video has been posted to their Instagram already, with a reporter capturing the reactions of Aussie and international media stars on the red carpet learning that THR has come to Australia.

With the launch of The Hollywood Reporter Australia, Aussies now have access to local version of the one of the predominant US-based entertainment news trades. In the United States. The Hollywood Reporter is one of the two dominant entertainment industry trade publications alongside Variety. It breaks the latest stories in film and television, with a focus on industry news including box office analysis, major studio announcements, as well as rumours and insider scoops about upcoming projects.
The launch of The Hollywood Reporter Australia mirrors a model that has been followed by other media organisations in the local market. In 2020, Sydney-based The Brag Media secured the licence from Penske Media to relaunch Rolling Stone Australia as a digital-first platform with quarterly print editions, social media coverage, and original local content alongside mostly syndicated US material. That partnership deepened in 2022 when The Brag Media struck a second licensing deal with Penske to launch Variety Australia, bringing another large US publication to Australia. Both Rolling Stone and Variety Australia operate under the same framework where a local publisher handles editorial, commercial and events operations on the ground, while the US parent provides brand licensing, content syndication and global oversight In the US, Penske Media owns all three publications, including The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Rolling Stone.
