Review: The Garfield Movie

The Garfield Movie is directed by Mark Dindal who you might now from his work on The Emperor’s New Groove. It follows Garfield and Odie as they’re reunited with Garfield’s father and taken a roadtrip adventure heist.

As a fan of the Garfield comics, this movie really captured core of what makes Garfield a funny and loveable character. That said, I wish more of the focus was on Jon and Garfield and their relationship. The choice to focus instead on Garfield father is one that the movie handles well emotionally, but one that I personally would not have preferred.

The animation is outstanding. It’s filled with warm and vibrant colours, with a very, textile and fuzzy animation style that creates a really inviting and cozy aesthetic.

The story is heaps of fun, it’ll keep families entertained with some surprisingly huge action and fast-paced adventure, that still lands its best action moments with signature Garfield humour — there was multiple laugh out loud moments in this.

The message is also very nice, a family traditional family reunion and growth story that resonated well.

So, despite some flaws, I loved the Garfield movie, it was super entertaining, warm and vibrant animation, and very funny.

Let us know if you’ve seen the film and what you thought!
