Megalopolis, the new film from Francis Ford Coppola is out this week. The movie features a live interaction element. Screen Brief has seen the film, and we can reveal the script for the audience interaction.
How does the audience interaction work?
The relevant scene unfolds when Adam Driver’s character attends a press conference. Cameras flash while Driver’s appears on screen silently, waiting for a question. Then, a person in the actual cinema delivers a scripted line to Driver’s character. Then Driver answers it.
Some cinemas will organise for staff members, or volunteers, to use a microphone and deliver the line. However, if your cinema hasn’t organised this, the scene will still occur. In fact, several sources confirmed to us that the line is actually recorded. The live performer simply lip-syncs while standing at the microphone. So if you’re cinema doesn’t have anything go up, you’ll still here the line even if you don’t see anyone performing it.
When do we deliver the line?
It will be obvious. Toward the middle of the film, the screen size will shrink to be tiny. Adam Driver will sit at a press conference table while cameras flash, waiting for a question (as the image above shows). Then, it’s your time to shine!
What is the line we should read?
The scripted line to deliver to Adam Driver’s character is as follows:
“Mr Catilina, you said that as we jump into the future, we should do so unafraid. But what if when we do jump into the future and there is something to be afraid of?”
