For weeks now, Event Cinemas had delayed putting up new sessions of The Odyssey for sale. Instead, they decided to announce last night that 100 new sessions would go on sale at the same time (9:30AM on 7th August). The result caused the Event Cinemas website to crash, with ticket orders failing and errors abound.
Some IMAX Sydney fans reported getting all the way through purchasing tickets for The Odyssey, only to receive nothing, with sessions disappearing even after customers placed their orders. The Event Cinemas website has now fully blocked all sales of IMAX Sydney sessions, giving them a chance to reset the website after the crash.
In the 30 minutes tickets were for sale, many sessions nearly sold out, but were auto-rejected by the website crash. All sales were paused until around 11AM, went sessions finally went back on sale.
After session were back on sale, IMAX Sydney sold over 10,000 tickets within an hour thanks to the overwhelming demand from moviegoers wanting to see the film on the only 1.43 IMAX screen in New South Whales.
Tickets still remain for weekday and early morning sessions, but almost all seats for Friday to Sunday sessions are sold out until mid September now.
