James Gunn became DC Studios co-CEO 2 years ago. Here’s every project he’s announced since then.

Films

Superman (Film)

Status: Releases 11 July 2025 in cinemas

Features a young but established Superman alongside Lois, Lex, and fellow heroes Guy Gardener, Hawkgirl, and Mr Terrific. Currently in editing process. Trailer soon.

Writer/director: James Gunn.

 

Supergirl (Film)

Status: Filming Jan 2025 in the UK

Based on the comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Supergirl and villain Krem cast. Screen tests for Ruthye happening now.

No release date but likely 2026

 

The Batman Part II

Status: Releasing 2 October 2026

Script is finished and starts filming early 2025. Greig Fraser likely to return as cinematographer.

Dynamic Duo (Animated Film)

Status: Greenlit

Origin of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Uses Momo animation, which combines CGI animation, puppets and live-action performance.

Co-producers: WBP Animation, Swaybox, 6th & Idaho (Matt Reeves)

Swamp Thing (Film)

Status: Officially announced, script being written

A gothic-horror story inspired by the Bernie Wrightson comics and the original Frankenstein book, that will explore the dark origins of Swamp Thing.

Writer/Director: James Mangold

No release date.

 

The Authority (Film)

Status: Officially announced

No cast yet except for María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer., who is also appearing in ’Superman’. James Gunn says a writer has been attached for a while, though it’s not know who that is.

Batman: Brave and the Bold (Film)

Status: Officially announced

Features Batman and Robin (Damian Wayne) with the Bat-family. Casting for Batman is “miles and miles away” according to Gunn.

No release date or writer.

 

Super/Man: The Christoper Reeve Story (Documentary)

Status: Released

DC Studios bought the rights to the critically revered documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. DC Studios then gave it a wide theatrical release across the world. David Corenswet attended the premiere.

 

TV Series

The Penguin (Max Series)

Status: Released

8 Episodes

DC Studios helped produce this spinoff of ‘The Batman’ film. Critical and fan success with record viewership for HBO and Max.

Leads into The Batman Part II.

 

Creature Commandos (Max Animated Series)

Status: Releases Dec 5 2024

7 Episodes

A secret team of incarcerated monsters are recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. Actors will also play their characters in DCU live-action projects.

Written by James Gunn.

 

Peacemaker Season 2 (Max Series)

Status: Currently filming, set for 2025 release

8 Episodes

Original cast returning plus new characters. “It’s a very different season. Very magical”.

Lanterns (Max Series)

Status: Greenlit, filming soon

8 Episodes

John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) are drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Waller (Max Series)

Status: Officially announced

Features Viola Davis as Amanda Waller with team Peacemaker.

Originally slated for 2024 pre-strikes, delayed till after Peacemaker Season 2 release.

Booster Gold (Max Series)

Status: Officially announced

Character-driven story about Booster visiting the present pretending to be a hero.

Rumoured castings include Kumail Nanjiani as Booster, which has been somewhat confirmed by Xolo Mariduena

No release date, few updates.

 

Paradise Lost (Max Series)

Status: Officially announced

Origin story of how the Amazons and Themyscira began. Set in the past.

No release date, few updates.
