The new trailer for James Gunn’s Superman movie is here, and we’ve broken down every character appearance, exciting moment and easter egg below.
Superman Arrest – Ultraman and Rick Flag Sr.
Superman is arrested by Rick Flag Sr, Ultraman, and The Engineer. Rick Flag Sr is the head of ARGUS, the US government agency concerned with superheroes and metas. Superman is later seen locked in a meta-human prison.

Rick Flag Sr will appear in multiple DCU projects. He is the father of Rick Flag Jr, who Peacemaker killed in The Suicide Squad. After working with the Creature Commandos, he’s now arresting Superman, and will be hunting Peacemaker next.

The Engineer
The Engineer is allied with Lex Luthor and uses nanites to morph her body into different weapons. She’s also a member of The Authority, a team of anti-heroes who will star in an upcoming DCU movie.

Metamorpho
Metamorpho can change his body into any element he wishes. He appears to be using Kryptonite against Superman who he is locked in prison with.

The purple soldiers are likely controlled by Lex Luthor.

They appear to be enforcing the metahuman prison, working with The Engineer, and Lois and Mr Terrific have to fight them.
Green Lantern, Hawkgirl and Mr Terrific
These three heroes make up a corporate-sponsored Justice League backed by billionaire Maxwell Lord’s company Lordtech.
The team presents a counter-argument that governments and corporations should control superheroes’ actions.

Maxwell Lord is the CEO of Lordtech and creator of this team.

Played by Sean Gunn, he just appeared in the Peacemaker trailer where he was interviewing Peacemaker to join the same team. The show takes place after Superman.
Lordtech
The Lordtech logo appears multiple times.
Superman flies above the Lordtech building. The stadium fight is at Lordtech field. And when Lois is interviewing Superman, she’s using a Lordtech microphone.
Boravian war
Superman stopped a war from occurring in Boravia.
However, the newspaper article that Clark Kent is holding about the Hammer of Boravia, shows this brought more chaos to Metropolis.

The Hammer of Boravia
This villain seen fighting Superman supposedly has a connection to Boravia, the nation where Superman stopped the war. It appears to be someone inside a robot suit. Feel free to speculate who it is.

The giant Kaiju
The Kaiju monster that Superman appears to be an original character created for the film. Action figures have revealed it oozes slime, and that a “Baby Kaiju” was created by Lex Luthor, so it’s likely Lex created the Kaiju.
Big Belly Burger
Big Belly Burger appears multiple times.
This fictional fast-food franchise is an iconic part of the DC Universe, having a presence across multiple cities in the DCU. They have billboards and stadium ads here.
Comic book creators on street names
The streets of Metropolis are named after iconic comic book creators.

Mark Waid and Alan Moore are among the few we see.
Metropolis is in chaos
A news report says a flood has occurred, and this scene shows the flood was potentially created by Metamorpho’s powers due to the purple colour.
Eve Teschmacher
She is Lex Luthor’s girlfriend and is played by Sara Sampaio. Her character played a large comedic role in the 1978 Superman film.

Chocos
The headquarters of the Chocos company are attacked.
Chococ are the DCU’s iconic recreation of Oreos, and are famously Martian Manhunter’s favourite snack. Leaked set photos showed ads for Chocos on the streets of Metropolis.

Daily Planet easter eggs
There is a Superman figure at the Daily Planet office.
In-movie merchandise was created for the film, where all the logos use the movie suit design. There’s also a Jim Lee Superman artwork on the board.
Jitters cafe
Clark Kent is holding a Jitters coffee cup.
The same cafe appears in the Peacemaker show where Keeya is working. It serves as connective tissue for the DCU.

Final battle
The final battle may involve Green Lantern.
A shield construct created from his ring might be seen here protecting against the large purple energy blast as Superman prepares to go to battle.
The Mighty Crabjoys
Superman has a poster for the Mighty Crabjoys in his room.
This fictional band has appeared in the DCU before. Frankenstein wore a shirt with it in Creature Commandos. And the band appears on a billboard in Peacemaker Season 2.

Pocket dimensions
Mr Terrific, Lois and Superman are in a dark cave/space with floating objects.
This could be a pocket dimension. James Gunn has already stated pocket dimensions appear in the film. They are like mini-alternate universes, like the one Peacemaker finds his alternate self in.
Superman releases in Australian cinemas on July 10th, and in the US on July 11th.
